Why Hire You?

Why should someone hire you? Or your company? Or your association?

That question shows up in a lot of ways.

Most organizations are clear on their “why we exist.” But the “why you” is not always clear.

And in a world full of noise, competition, and distractions, clarity around your value matters more than ever.

Why should someone buy your product?
Join your association?
Attend your event?
Hire your firm?
Hire you as a CEO or as a member of their team?

Over the holidays, I spent time digging into this for my own work. I asked friends, colleagues, clients, audience members, bureau agents, and others what really stood out.

What resonated from my keynotes, my book, and my consulting work.

One answer kept coming up. The way I combine deep knowledge from my work with 300+ organizations with my experiences as a wildlife photographer who has traveled to all seven continents.

I bring those two worlds together in how I speak, write, and consult on innovation.

That is what I bring to the table. A different perspective. One people are not hearing anywhere else.

A message that helps audiences and clients approach their challenges in a new way.

Here’s the interesting part. That differentiator, being a wildlife photographer, was buried on my website.

The very thing that answered the “why me instead of someone else” question was hard to find.

So I fixed it. (If you want to see some of my images, the link is in the comments)

I took what I learned and made that difference immediately visible.

Ask the question. Figure out what makes your voice and your organization’s value distinct. Then shine a bright light on it.
